DRAGON EGGS

ELECTRIC MATCH

A device consisting of wires terminating at a relatively high resistance element surrounded with a small quantity of heat-sensitive pyrotechnic composition. When sufficient electric current is passed through the wires, the heat generated ignites the pyrotechnic composition producing a small burst of flame. Used to electrically ignite shells.

FAN CAKE

A barrage unit in which the mortar tubes are positioned on the base in a spreading fan pattern. When fired the effects cover a large area of the sky.

FINALE

String of shells fused together to fire rapidly in order from a rack of tubes (finale rack).

FISH

Small inserts that dart out from the burst of the shell, like a school of minnows. Available in several colors.

FLOATING LEAVES (FALLING LEAVES)

Long burning colored or crackling stars, which slowly float down from the burst of the shell.

FUSEE (PORTFIRE)

A long tube containing slow burning pyrotechnic composition that is used to ignite fireworks at an outdoor display.

GAMBOGE

Refers to the reddish orange colored tail left by a type of chrysanthemum shell.

GERB

A cylindrically shaped heavy tube solidly filled with pyrotechnic composition with a plug at one end and a restricted orifice at the other. When ignited, it releases a spray of sparks with a predictable duration, height and pattern.
